Hello!
I am Sade' and I am in ENG213 to experience a marvelous introduction to the study of language.
My name in itself can identify the language problems I come across daily. My name is oddly designed to make people say "Sade," but it is actually pronounced "Shaw-day." The name comes from Africa and found its way to France. In result, I was named after the French singer Sade who was dear to my mother's ears.
On another note, I did manage to take two years of Spanish in high school and was determined to stop there. I remember my best friend who spoke Spanish fluently making fun of how awful my Spanish was because it was way too formal. So when it came to the last year of Spanish, I was filled with joy.
Later I did try to learn Latin which is hard to learn by yourself so I stopped there, too.
As for myself, my interests are reading and binge watching shows on Netflix (these things could also be my hobbies). Also, I really do love learning. Oh and I also enjoy chilling out to some Harry Belafonte or the Blackbyrds (any kind of music, really, except for metal).
I am totally looking forward to a great semester appreciating the variety of language!
I really like the background from your name, I also like learning, and most music. In Spanish I speak formal because it help me be understood by many other Spanish speaker, I also did a little of latin or also known as medical terminology for the most part.
ReplyDeleteI think your name is so cool! The roots to it make it all the more interesting! I never took Spanish (my high school didn't require a foreign language) but my best friend's family was Hispanic and they always made fun of my terrible Spanish! Which shoes to you binge watch? I just finished all of Merlin and am currently starting in on Doctor Who (wish me luck!) I look forward to getting to know you better via your blogs!
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny how we ended up taking a class together, then sitting in front of one another and not notice until the end of class. I think this class got a lot more interesting because of it, haha. As for speaking Spanish, I speak a mix of informal and formal, so I get made fun of for sounding really strange when talking to people my age. However, adults like my Spanish just fine, so I can really understand both sides. Awesome that you listen to pretty much everything, I used to listen to metal and screamo quite a bit in high school. Although my music taste and choice has really mellowed since then. I always thought your name was cool, especially the story. Although I never really knew how you spelled it, I only ever said it.
ReplyDeleteEverything but metal, yep, that's me too. I don't suppose you know where in Africa the name might originate? I've grown a lot more interested in native African languages after having met several Africans. Zambians, Zimbabweans and Madagascis could communicate in dialect but not with Congans or Ugandans. Fascinating the language families were close enough to be able to communicate across certain countries but not the continent.
